Shrewsbury Youth Lacrosse (SYL) - Massachusetts

  • Registration for 2019 Spring season is closing soon - REGISTER NOW!  Register by January 15th to avoid the $25 late fee.  Contact us at with questions or if you would like to be involved with SYL as a volunteer.

Shrewsbury Boys' Youth Lacrosse (SYL) promotes the game of lacrosse, sportsmanship, teamwork and athleticism.  We welcome players of all skill levels.  Our goal is to teach our kids the proper skills, along with training and conditioning, so they get a full understanding of the game, and they develop a life-long love for lacrosse!  We play all of our kids equally in our Town/Classic program, regardless of skills and experience, in order to nurture their participation in this great game and to provide a positive experience for all involved.  As part of the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL), there are no scores or standings kept and no championships awarded.  We have found this creates a great environment to develop players of all abilities in a sport which is new to most.  Boys in 1st-8th grade.

We also have tryouts for  our SELECT level play.  This is a  more competitive game, keeping score and the with season culminating with 2 playoff rounds and a championship.

SYL believes everyday is a great day to be a lacrosse player!

Spring 2019 Registration Closing Soon!

Attention Shrewsbury Families of 1st through 8th grade boys:

Registration for the Spring 2019 lacrosse season is open!  Shrewsbury Youth Lacrosse (SYL) is proud to begin its 19th year of teaching lacrosse, respecting one another and having fun!  Registration for our 2019 spring season will continue through December.  As always, we encourage players of any ability to join us for an exciting new season of lacrosse.

Registration is open to 1st thru 8th grade boys who live in Shrewsbury.  We field teams in the U9 (Grades 1&2), U11 (Grades 3&4), U13 (Grades 5&6) and U15 (Grades 7&8) divisions.  No experience is required.  The cost is $215 per player, which does not include the cost of equipment.  A credit card is required to sign up.

Register by January 15th to avoid $25 late fee.

Lacrosse is a Spring sport and is ideal for football, basketball, hockey and soccer players.  In fact, lax is for anyone who likes action packed, dirty, sweaty competition. We begin indoor practices in February.  In mid-March we will begin weekly practices 1-2 days/week.  We play an 8-game schedule against surrounding towns starting in April and the season ends with a Jamboree event at Fort Devens in early June (It’s the largest lacrosse Jamboree in the country!!).   Kids love playing “lax” and parents enjoy watching!

Why lacrosse is the best spring sport….

·       Games are fast, 40 minutes of action!

·       Playing lacrosse is FUN. Watching lacrosse is FUN.

·       Every player touches the ball, every game.

·       Your kid WILL break a sweat!

·       He WILL play in the rain. In mud. And snow. And heat.

·       Learning TEAMWORK is paramount to a player’s success

·       Lacrosse is played at practically every high school in Massachusetts

·       And did we mention, it’s FUN!

There are no try-outs for our Town/Classic program and teams will be evenly organized and balanced.  We field all players among the age-group team as equally as possible with the goal of teaching the sport of lacrosse and providing a fun experience for everyone involved.

Our league is growing fast and we are always looking for people to help with coaching, administrative and other duties, so please contact us at if you’d like to volunteer.  We’ve had some excellent coaches and helpers over the years that have never played lacrosse, so don’t let inexperience stop you if you're new to the sport!

Important – Timely registration is critical since we need to register our teams by mid-December for the 2019 Spring season.

Please help us spread the word by telling your friends and neighbors about our program.

Thank You for Your Support!  Please join us!

Ground balls win games!!

game winning GB

Jack Peters fights for and ultimately wins this GB, allowing him to kill the clock and preserve the victory for the u15 Select team.

This is a great example of the importance of Ground Balls.  GB's = posession.  Posession = scoring opp and time kills.  High school and college track GB's as a key stat during games (long poles LOVE this stat!) Shrewsbury Lax=GB's.  Nice job, Jack and team.
